Turmeric Wellness Shots
If you’ve been to any Juice Bar lately, then you already know that turmeric shots are a huge deal these days! In fact, I’ve gotten into the habit of going to my favorite local juice bar at least once or twice a week and getting a fresh juice or smoothie, along with a turmeric shot or two. At $5 a pop for a 1.5 ounce shot, this was starting to get pricey.
So I did a little digging to see what exactly goes into the making of a turmeric shot (besides turmeric), and realized I could easily make it at home. And for much cheaper!
After a few trial runs, I came up with a simple recipe you can easily make in no time. But first, let’s talk about the benefits of all the ingredients in these wondrous little shots.
Turmeric – A spice that has been used in ancient Ayurvedic medicine for years, turmeric can help reduce insulin levels, making it helpful for those who are Insulin Resistant or Diabetic. Its known to boost immunity, promote healthy skin. The main active ingredient in turmeric, called curcumin, is anti-inflammatory, meaning it can help reduce pain. Many people are starting to turn to turmeric over OTC medication for things like joint pain. Turmeric has all the pain-reducing benefits of meds like ibuprofen but without all the nasty side-effects. Turmeric is often call ‘Nature’s Pain Killer” for a reason!
Ginger – helps reduce nausea, morning sickness and motion sickness, anti-inflammatory, digestive support by helping reduce gas and bloat
Lemon Juice – Packed with Vitamin C, also potassium, magnesium and copper, helps detoxify and cleanse the body
Raw Honey – raw honey is unheated and unprocessed honey, so it still contains all it vitamins, minerals and live enzymes. Its also antifungal and antibacterial (helpful in healing wounds), soothes sore throats, full of antioxidants
Sea Salt – high-quality sea salt is full of the minerals that it naturally gets from the sea. Iodized white salt has been stripped of all minerals but sodium, so you get a big hit of sodium without the other minerals that are meant to be in balance with sodium, for perfect electrolyte balance.
Turmeric Wellness Shots Recipe
2t Turmeric Powder (or 3-4 inches fresh turmeric, grated)
1T Ginger Powder (or 2 inches fresh ginger, grated)
1T Raw Honey
1/2t Sea Salt
Squeeze juice from the lemons. Blend all the ingredients together. Pour a 1-2 ounce shot for . Store extra juice in a mason jar or other container with a tight lid. Keep in the fridge for up to a week.
Drink 1 shot daily!
