Hello friends! Thanks so much for stopping by for a visit! Prepared Simply is all about real food nutrition and natural living, sharing what I’ve learned over the years (and am still learning) and giving tips and tricks to make this way of living simple. Nutrient seeker is not full of complicated recipes, in fact I try to make food as easy as possible while still consuming healthy nutritious food. I like to think of the way I eat as “utilitarian”. It isn’t necessarily pretty but it serves a purpose. When I transitioned my diet from processed foods to real food, the hardest part was figuring out how to do it without spending all day, everyday in the kitchen. I am not a cook and that was never my goal coming into this. My motivation in eating real, nutrient-dense food is the many benefits I get from these foods. When I started to learn of the specific benefits of certain foods, that’s when this way of eating really stuck with me. The more I focus on nutirent-density, the better I feel. I personally follow the Paleo diet but I don’t necessarily think that’s best for everyone. Some people thrive on a vegetarian/vegan/plant-based diet while some, like myself, do best on Paleo, and others do well somewhere in between. The focus should really be how to eat REAL, WHOLE food and eliminate all the yucky ingredients in processed, fake foods.
I’m Jenn and I started Prepared Simply to share how to get back-to-basics with food and living.
A little about me. I currently live in my hometown Richmond, Va with my dog, Rudy and cat, Chloe. For the past 14 years I’ve been running my dog walking business which keeps me very busy and now I also work part time from home as a medical coder. Just a few things I’m passionate about include animal rescue, the outdoors, eating, sneakers, audio books/podcasts, supporting local farmers, REI, the beach, photography, real food nutrition and much more!
Want to know more about my health background and what led to me to want to share with you? Here it is. Since my teens I’ve suffered from migraines and extremely painful menstrual cramps, in fact after years of trying over the counter medications, I ended up on prescription meds for both issues. Then I spent my 20’s really not taking care of myself, eating the SAD diet, partying way too hard and sleeping very little. I certainly didn’t feel top notch but was still at an age that I could just push through it. No surprise, it was in my early 30’s that my real health struggles started. In a 2 year span I developed Raynauds syndrome, my headaches turned into full blown migraines, I began having digestive issues AND out of nowhere I developed melasma on my face! At the time I didn’t link any of these issues to each other, they all felt like completely separate concerns, but I did feel like my body was “falling apart” in my 3o’s so I knew something was wrong. 5 years ago I changed to a gluten free diet which helped some but I was still eating processed food. Food with a gluten free label can still be incredibly processed and nutrient poor.
It wasn’t until I discovered the Paleo Diet and lifestyle (Paleo is about much more than just food) almost 3 years ago that things started to come together. I learned about eating real whole food, natural self care, holistic medicine and so much more. I’m still on my healing journey but Paleo has been a real game changer for me. I strongly believe that without finding the Paleo community, my health would have continued to decline.
Learning to take better care of yourself is empowering and fun! And now I want to share what I learn with you along the way.
So please visit often as I share tips on real food nutrition, natural skincare, stress reduction and more!
